What I Got Wrong in My First Month
I thought discipline meant holding through every drawdown. It does not. It means cutting the trade when the thesis breaks, even when the loss stings. I confused conviction with stubbornness in the early weeks.
I thought I needed to trade every week. A blank scanner output felt like failure. Sitting on my hands while the regime filter said no? That felt wrong. Turns out, most of my best weeks were the ones where I did nothing. The system is designed to protect the account when conditions are poor. Fighting that protection is the fastest way to drain it.
I thought more indicators would make better decisions. I layered RSI over MACD over volume over three moving averages and called it a system. It was a mess. Stripping it down to weekly bars, one EMA stack, and a regime filter made the decisions clearer and the execution faster.
The biggest shift was accepting that the system is smarter than my gut. My gut wanted action. The system wanted patience. The system was right.
